Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

If you haven't yet seen it, Elizabeth Foss and I have posted our first installment on a Math main lesson block at Serendipity. Gnomes and Gnumbers: A Mathematical Tale is a numerical story about a clan of four miserly, jewel-hoarding gnomes who learn the consequences of greed from the wise, Tolkien-inspired Ancient Tree Folk. Along with the original story and art (which is available for free download), we have offered complete lesson plans for the 5-6 and 7-8 age groups. Along with this, a detailed list of suggested resources and recommended suppliers is offered and linked.

The Scope and Sequence of this main lesson block is as follows:

Along with a variety of math-related games and fun, the scope and sequence of the Gnomes and Gnumbers Main Lesson covers the four mathematical processes (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), counting to 1,000, place value, both horizontal and vertical operations, identifying odd and even numbers, multiplication work up to the 12 times table, mental math, borrowing and carrying work, and multiple digit and multiple operation problem solving.

Lessons will be posted on Sundays, God-willing. As for everything on Serendipity, Gnomes and Gnumbers is the overflow of what we are doing in our own homes with our dear children.

We hope you enjoy the tale.

Thank you so much for doing this! It came at a perfect time, as we have just begun a math main lesson block.   I'm so grateful for the work you have put into this.

thank you thank you thank you
As I was tucking my daughters in tonight, the eldest was reading aloud to her twin sisters from Fairyopoils and begging me to plan a unit study on fairies!!!
I am so excited about this new unit. I think I am about to sprout fairy wings

WOW I'm impressed!
I've been stumped on math and was just wondering whether I should buy a workbook from walmart to "fill in" while I focus on incorporating waldorf in other areas, but here's my answer!

THANK YOU both for all the work!!
