Chicken Lady -- it's for high school -- Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Trig, Stats, Calculus, Geometry....
DD hated Saxon Algebra 1 so she read thru LoF Algebra 1 and did the work in about 2 months, went back to Saxon and passed (she was doing Seton at the time). The next year she had Alg2 and they used Saxon again, but she really clicked and got an A.
Personally, I like LoF because it makes the math seem approachable and not scary at all ... there have been some comments on other lists about innuendo, but I don't think this is a problem. Remember that these are for high schoolers.

According to the writer, you can start the program once they have the basics down pat. We started this summer with the fractions book with my Saxon traumatized son. he just turned 13 and I would have called him "behind" in math, but he is really excelling at this program. We are hoping to start the first Algebra book after Christmas.

Yep, it's a full year ... based on "real school"; your mileage may vary

Thanks, Mary. I'm just not sure what to do. Sarah was due to begin Saxon 87 this year. I wonder which book would be best then to begin with the Life of Fred books???? I did email the creator to ask his advice, so we'll see.........

Wow! I just ordered the Life of Fred Fractions AND Decimals and Percents book. Stan (the author) said it'd be no problem to do these both this year.
Well, they arrived in a VERY timely fashion, and Stan himself tried to call me to answer my questions (twice! When I wasn't home after the second time, he emailed me, then emailed me again after I had more questions. He really is great.
I have looked them over, and there are things about them I really LOVE, and things about them I'm witholding judgment on until we use them for awhile, and we see what happens with Sarah using these. I told her this is a trial deal, and we'll see what happens.
I can see that this may leave us more free to explore wiht games, some math writing, and other things to hopefully help my very hands on imaginative girl with math!
