Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can anyone offer a review of their skip counting methods (songs, games, etc...)?

My kids seem to enjoy learning skip counting songs to help with multiplication memorization. So far we have only used the Schoolhouse Rock DVD. If there is another thread where different skip counting methods are "reviewed", please point it out to me. I searched, but couldn't find anything.

When it comes to music, we are an equal opportunity family except for rap. I really can't stand it and neither can husband. It seems as though most of the math facts songs I found on Amazon are rap.

I thought that MUS had some CD's but I have been hesitant to order them without being able to preview them. (We don't use MUS right now, but we might be switching to it next year.)

Thanks!

Have you considered Jumprope Jingles? You can change the numbers to what ever skip counting you're working on right now...

Red hot pepper in the pot,
Who's got more than the leader's got?
(jump double time) 10, 20, 30, 40, etc...

or

Lemon drops and sugar candy,
Both of these taste just dandy.
Best of all is cherry pop,
How many jumps before I stop?
One, two, three...

We're just working on this now -- but I found that watching a lot of basketball helped with counting by two's!!

What a creative way to do skip-counting! I remember I used to love this sort of thing as a kid.

My family has enjoyed the music tape "100 Sheep," which has songs based on New Testament stories, with skip-counting in the choruses.

We have the MUS cd. The kids loved it when it was new, but the lady's voice is very high, and I thought it was hard to hear the words. I prefer School House Rock. I love the jump rope idea!

One of the early Saxon grades had some skip counting that we liked - how many days in 1 week, 5 weeks, etc. How many weeks in 4 months (assuming a month is about 4 weeks), there were some about sides of a triangle or wheels on a tricycle (s). Anyways the ones related to real work seemed to stick best. My dd may have had trouble with some, but 7s were a breeze. We did a few seconds of this kind of thing in a gamish sort of way every day for a while.

This has always been my kids favorite skip counting tape!
The tunes are very catchy...

My three school age kids all learned to skip count using the old MUS tapes. I bought them years ago for my eldest, though I never used MUS, and the youngers retained all the songs as well after hearing them over and over in the car. They didn't like the Bible skip counting tape, or the "chipmunk" voice on the flip side. But the regular skip count tape was listened to again and again. I have no idea what the newer CD sounds like.

I would totally buy them again... And probably will have to for Declan, since my old cassette tapes fell apart!

We have the Skip Count Kid's Bible Heroes CD and really like it. You can listen to samples on the website.

Also, their Skip Count Kid Regular Version sounds good too.

We have also used the 100 sheep tape for skip counting. I must admit that at first I had a real aversion to 'bible+math', but the tape is hilarious...
I will quote here (from memory).."6,12,18,24,30 dishes on the counter and man weren't they dirty ( a song about Martha and the housework!!)

Hi Again,

I have also been known on a dime to create songs for different things like skip counting, continents, Canadian capitals etc. (unfortunately I think they all have the same sort of rythm- but hey, the kids love them).

My mom used to do this, and it was hysterical! We STILL actually remember some of them and recite/sing them when we get together or on the phone!
