What grammar program are you using or how are you covering this subject for this grade? We had PLL but it did not click for us.I have Simply Grammar but had heard it was for 4th grade and up. I am considering English for the Thoughtful Child but am not sure about that.I have also looked for a CM grammar program in ebook format that I could get or something along those lines.
TIA

We are making a Grammar notebook that outlines the basic parts of speech and includes examples.
We are using Sanseri's Spell to Read & Write for Spelling which includes ideas for sentence work. I also pull from Jay Patterson's Grammar Works, First Language Lessons, and another Montessori Grammar bk I have. We are also working our way through Prima Latina which is really helping us learn our own English language.

We use Rod and Staff English. It is excellent for grammar. It is very thorough. I do supplement for writing - We use IEW.

Nothing worked as well as Winston Grammar! The multi-sensory approach is resulting in joyful sentence diagraming when my original goal much, much less.

Jennifer,
I think I consider getting Winston Grammar every year, then I get something else instead, then I wish I had gotten Winston Grammar!! I have a ds who is in 7th this year. We have done Easy Grammar and about 1/2 a year of Voyages (which was rather torturous for him). This year, I tried the newer version of Voyages because it came with a teachers manual and I thought it would help me, as well as the fact that it is brighter with items highlighted and seemed to explain things a little more simply. Well, we're still struggling. My question: do you think it is too late to try Winston now as he will be going into 8th grade? Also, would you recommend Winston and possibly another source as a back up, like Easy Grammar Plus, or is this not necessary? What do you think? After I typed all this I'm thinking maybe you should pm me. I realize I've high-jacked this thread that was for a younger student. So sorry, didn't mean to!

Becky, I've only used/seen the Basic Level. I do know there is a placement exam online though. In my opinion the Basic Level is arranged in such a manner that a 3rd grader or a 7th grader could use the same book. One might require a little more help from Mom than the other and progress a little faster, but a sentence is a sentence, iykwim! As far as an additional workbook, I just typed up or dictated extras using exactly the same pattern if I felt additional practice was needed.
I don't think you hijacked the thread at all, Becky, as the Winston Grammar could be used for many levels. I'd be interested to hear if other Moms felt the same way though...

We LOVE Winston Grammar! It's an excellent program. I never used the Advanced, and wish I had! I think I may use both for our daughter next year. She's very hands on AND visual!
Once again, I think I need to stick to what works, and what's good for us. I was thinking of Easy Grammar Plus for the kids, which is a consideration as well. I'm wondering if both could be done together as well.

Word Works looks fun and like great review on the most common grammar errors. Can anyone recommend that?
