Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm doing some research and looking for pre-reading skills/activities for the 2-4 year old age range.

So many things I did naturally with my dc when they were young and didn't realize until I came into hs'ing were actually helpful to them when they started to read LOL.

I"m trying to compose a list of ideas.

Here's what I've come up with so far. What have you all done to prepare your children to read?

Younger child (closer to the 2 year old mark)

Vocabulary acquisition - naming things
Matching
Sorting
Rhyming
Nursery rhymes
Top to bottom
Left to right
Conversation, of course!

Older child - pre-schooler
More of the above, with:
rhyming - leave out the last word and let child complete; change the rhyme altogether
Letter awareness
Phonological awareness (letters represent sounds)
Narration/sequencing
Conversation!

Adding on to JodieLyn's comment about being read to....being read to will greatly increase background knowledge, which will help with reading comprehension.
