Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

A friend shared this program with me for my 6 yo son that is struggling to make a good start with reading. I have searched the forum for discussion on this program, but didn't find anything. Has anyone tried it? Any recommendations or otherwise?

Thanks in advance!

It looks like this program isn't familiar with anyone on the boards... so just to follow up, in case anyone is looking for a different phonics program, so far it's working very well for my son. And I like it, too!

It's broken down into four or five books (my friend gave me books 1-3, so that's all I have seen), and each seem to be colorful and appealing with manageable, logical lessons. It looks like it might be a British publisher, so one or two words have been unfamiliar. (My son has been stuck on "bog" each time we've encountered it. We have swamps and gators. Very different. )

The concept is cute: a friendly little alien isn't able to speak using whole words. His "alienspeak" consists of the sounds that make up words. For example, when he wants to say "dog" he says, "/d/ /o/ /g/". (Is that the right way to signify the letter sound?) So the child needs to use "alienspeak" so that the little alien can understand them - and then try to show the alien how to put the sounds together to form words. This includes word recognition, writing and spelling, too. Clever and thorough!

We're only three lessons in, but so far the concept has grabbed my son and he's been pretty successful. That's a blessed leap for my boy, thank God!!
