Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Eva

Here are some thoughts on Excellence in Literature:

1.The guides are excellent for a survey course - good selections, suggestions for extra reading and many many good rabbit trails to follow.

2. The writing assignments are excellent and there are grading rubrics given for those who have done IEW and those who have not.

However, in my opinion the guides are for those students who are very strong readers and writers, and those who are very familiar with literary analysis and who can write good literary analysis essays in MLA format. A prerequisite to the course would be something like Teaching the Classics or other formal literary analysis. Also the student should have covered writing different types of essays using a program such as Elegant Essay, Jensens Format Writing, Teaching the Essay (AG) or other similar.

My daughter really enjoyed the American Literature guide - she did all the reading, extra reading (honor options) and all the written assignments. (She is a writer and will probably major in lit)
