Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anybody here used Teaching the Classics? If you have, what is your opinion of it?

Thanks!

I love Adam Andrews! I went to several of his talks at a homeschool convention and I bought his DVD's (I haven't watched them yet ). I really like his approach of teaching the parents and empowering us to teach literature.

Have you looked at the book yet? How are you planning to use the DVDs?

We used Teaching the Classics a couple of years ago. We did it as part of our family block - students from second grade to sophomore. The DVD's are very good - and do make the program. We watched the dvds and the older children had handouts - we used the 6 week plan by Jill Pike.

We then used the story chart and lit analysis ideas in our narrations of history and literature living books through the year. My high schooler followed it up with Windows to the World that year.

I plan on doing it again next school year - just six weeks as a lit analysis booster for my eighth graders.

My view - it is a good introduction to the Socratic method.

Those who are Narration veterans probably would not need it though.

Thanks, Marilyn, how do you like "Windows to the World"?

My daughter liked it. I am just going through it at the moment and seeing how I can use it for my Grade 8 twins. Lots of good stuff, but quite densely presented. I would prefer Hewitt's Lightning Lit for the boys - but I want to use the resources that I already have.
