Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm prepping for the fall.

I use the StartWrite software for creating pretty much everything. Spelling sheets, worksheets, french worksheets, history narration, etc.

I like to use it with in curricula, if we have to write, why not use the same fonts, spacing etc. Then bind into workbooks etc.

Now I want to use it to educate dd7 and dd12(who needs work for cursive) about Catholicism. I'd love some direction on what would appropriate to use? DD12 finds learning very interesting in tiny little lessons when done in cursive worksheets. She is an aspiring herpetologist due to paragraphs she's read and copied last year. We have several geckos, so it enticed her to put effort in. Now, with her going into RCIC in the fall, I'd love to teach her more.

DD7 is just in love with Jesus as a whole. I have some short paraphrased parables and bible verses for her. Really nice pictures to include in the worksheets. But again, I'm looking for things specifically Catholic to teach her with. She devours anything about God and Jesus. Any suggestions of books or websites where I could find some great things to teach her from in the form of copywork?

I have a few ideas.

KC a while mentioned she uses the Collect (Opening Prayer of the Mass) prayers for copywork. With the change in the Ordinary Form prayers, this will be something that will be beautiful and prayerful. I think particularly on saints days these give a little taste of the saint.

Catholic Culture usually has them, and has plans to update them. But there are not always there (like today it is missing), and with the new translation coming in Advent, you may have to buy a new missal to get them.

And that would be my next suggestion. Copywork for the next prayers of the Mass. We need to familiarize ourselves with them, so Confiteor, Gloria, Creed, etc. will all need to be re-learned.

My seven-year-old loves the direct quotes from the Bible...of course Gospel readings like today don't hit home as well as the Parables and other things. The selections from the Bible used in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for the different Levels are what we do for copywork and calligraphy.

There are two books of short prayers that make wonderful copywork. These were written by Carmen Bernos De Gasztold, and translated by Rumer Godden. They are OOP, and you can find them either together or separately: Prayers from the Ark and The Creatures' Choir.

Here's a shorter sample:
Quote:
The Prayer of the Cricket
O God,
I am little and very black,
but I thank You
for having shed
Your warm sun
and the quivering of Your golden corn
on my humble life.
Then take--but be forbearing, Lord--
this little impulse of my love:
this note of music
You have set thrilling in my heart.
Amen.

Also, MicheleQ suggested at some point the prayer at the end of each saint of the day from the Pauline books Saints for Young Readers for Every Day, volumes 1 and 2.

Where do you buy the StartWrite software? I have been looking for something like that!

If they are of an age to start memorizing the catechism, you could pick one key question/answer per week for a copywork page, or major prayers in either latin or english, particularly ones they are working on memorizing. I also like to take parts of the writings of the saints for their feast days, or use Catholic Mosaic's recommendations for copywork if we are reading a book that day.
