Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Anyone do a writing program.... workbook form? IEW, Bravewriter, etc. might not be able to happen. So does anyone have a writing program that goes step by step via workbook that they like? Thanks!

Were you thinking of something like Scholastic Writing Maryan? I've not used these so I don't know much about them, other than what you can see on the sample page.
I know it is a struggle to fit writing and the like in during some years! I am dealing with that right now. As a matter of fact, on the top of my page of notes for curriculum next year I have a big question written: "Will We DO It?" I have bought wonderful programs with good intentions but when life gets hectic, if it's not easy to incorporate into our daily routine, it collects dust.

I know you use a file system and I have to say that around here, if it gets filed, it gets done. I'm struggling now with getting things like ILL done. I love the book, but I can't really "file" it if you know what I mean. I'm trying to thing of a systematic way to use it.

Anyway, I wish I had more to offer in the way of writing workbook ideas. I used Abeka Grammar with my 4th grader one year and I do remember a writing assignment at the bottom of most of the pages. Something like that might work too.

Coming back with another idea. I am considering Boys Scribe for my 5th grade ds next year. It is sort of workbooky in that there are pages you can copy or pull out. My ds loves to draw though to, so that would be a motivation for him.

Hey thanks for those links Becky! To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what I need/want. I think I'm leaning more towards a Scholastic type thing than a Scribe thing. I can always do a scribe type thing on my own (if I'm around), but if I'm not around Scholastic will at least keep them writing.

My thoughts are a variety of writing: letters, poems, acronyms, alliteration, etc. I've also looked at other links for old posts like: Write with the best. I've also looked at Timberdoodle's website. I'm curious to know if I bought Writer's Jungle if it could help me make my own writer's worksheets this summer?

As you can see I'm all over the place!! So all the links help me see options and try to pick a plan!

I hadn't seen Scholastic and since it's so cheap, I can always pull the pages that I want from it and do something else too. Thanks or the help!

Maryan,

Would Writing with Ease work for you?

We've been doing WWE, but for my 5th grader we need to move on. Although, that said, I don't have book 4 of WWE. (The dictation was sooo long - that I didn't see how that would work for us). But... we've been doing the first three and I think it will work for my younger kids, but not sure Book 4 is what I want for 5th grade. (I've been doing the books over two years). But perhaps a Scholastic type thing and WWE would be good. Hmm....

I should look at it again, thanks KC.

Maryan,
I don't have WWE, but I thought I'd mention that I often shorten (pre-selected) dictation selections, particularly for one of my writers. Just wanted to throw that out there - perhaps the next WWE could work for you if you shortened dictation lessons to more manageable sizes to best meet the skill level/attention of your 5th grader?

Jen, that is good to know and not a bad idea. All the selections are good... but way too long for either him (or me) to accompish... especially as instructed. Thanks!

I think the sequel to WWE - Writing With Style - is due to come out next year. I plan on using it when we are done with WWE.
