Any opinions? Looking to teach dd more intensive phonics. She just completed 100 EZ Lessons, and I think I have pared the programs down to these two. Maybe.

I love how 100 EZ Lessons was laid out. The lessons were very "EZ" for me to teach!

I guess that would be a big plus for me...but I also want something that is a draw for a little, too. Dare I say...fun?

What a good question. I'll be interested in hearing the answers. I used 100EZ and Sound Beg. I liked SB but it doesnt seem as complete as AAS appears to be. What I mean is that we finished SB (we could go on with their spelling list but it wasn't working for my son)and I felt like... what now? My son really needed more (not so much to learn how to read but to really be able to spell). I think that, for a child without any learning difficulties (he is dyslexic and has an auditory processing problem), SB would probably be sufficient.

We too use 100 EZ Lessons and used two spelling programs w/o much success b/f I discovered All About Spelling. My 7 y.o. dd is finishing up Level 2 and my 6 y.o. dd is working on Level 1. I wish that we had transitioned right from 100 EZ Lessons into AAS! We love it and can't wait to move on to addl. Levels!!!

I have found that AAS is logically sequenced based on concepts. The spelling lists correspond to the concept/spelling rule learned in that particular Step. It also is not overwhelming to me as far as prep. However, mom needs to teach each step. The success in & enthusiasm for spelling makes this so worth it for us! Each Step (chapter) is short and scripted.

AAS is also multisensory, using magnet tiles (think moveable alphabet) for teaching. The directions on how to organize the tiles are incl. w/the materials packet and are quick and easy to assemble. My eldest dd is an auditory learner primarily, while my 2nd dd is primarily a kinesthetic learner, so the AAS approach has been great for both of them...and I can reuse it w/each child w/o needing to re-purchase materials.

The fun comes in for the girls in using the tiles and being able to color in the Step number that they just completed on a sheet that corresponds to each level.

Levels 1 & 2 have readers that correspond to the material they are learning. The Steps will prompt you as to when to read a particular chapter in the readers (which are optional!). We do have one of the readers, and the girls' sense of accomplishment was definitely heightened when they could read a particular chapter fluently.

Perhaps the biggest plus for me is hearing things like my 6 y.o., when she was composing a letter to her cousin, say to herself under her breath when trying to spell a word..."OK, -f, -s, -l get doubled after a single vowel..." a spelling concept learned several weeks prior.
