I am planning for next year for dd (she'll be 9, but is dyslexic so lang skills at about grade 1) and am trying to decide if I can have her listen to a history audio one day, and then narrate for her notebook the next day, or if I should have her do it immediately after.
It's just been so long since we've done any CM-style work, I am not all that confident in my ability to judge the timing.
I kind of want to know for planning purposes, whether to schedule narrations for her same day or next.
I suppose I could have her do a little oral recap the same day to cement learning, and then have her do her noteboook narration (also oral, I'll type it up for her) the next day.
What do you think? How do you plan narrations for your 1st-3rd graders? Same day? Next? or something else entirely?

I try to do it immediately after they read....especially in the beginning (gr 1-2).......once I could tell they were "good narrators," I would just "fit it in" whenever I could THAT DAY.

If we're doing a blog-entry or a written narration/illustration or a notebook page, and I just can't get to it until the next day or beyond, I'll have them narrate to me that day.....and then after the narration, tell them "tomorrow, we'll do a blog entry/notebook page/type-it-up." Just so they know.

Now, that we're just out of that 3rd-grade-range....maybe next year, I wouldn't hesitate to wait until the next day. Depending on the material and what sort of reading it was.

I do narrations immediately after for my younger set. I think you'll probably be able to feel this one out quickly though, Theresa. Let her listen one day and see what she can tell you back the next day. If she's frustrated/unsure/without words/looks at you like a deer caught in the headlights...it's a good bet that she needs to narrate more closely to listening to the read-aloud/audio book.

That's exactly what I'd do! And don't rule out an amazing illustrated narration from that creative dd of yours!!!
