Has anyone used this program? I did a search and only came up with one post from back in 2006. Any recent users? What did you think?

I tried it two years ago and it was just too much for us. I wanted to like it so much because the concept seems great but it felt so burdensome. If you had the time to really learn along with your kids (do the homework, etc.) - which is what the author expects you to do - it could be really great. But I just didn't. I see yours are older than mine were when we tried it. Maybe it could work for you. Mine were 10 and 12 when we tried it.
I actually have the whole shebang for myself and two students that I'm planning on selling if ever I can get my act together.

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!!!!!
I am on my 4th child using it. We start it in 7th grade, do book 2 in 8th grade, finish in 9th grade, and call that last year "Latin II" on the high school transcripts.
I find my 7th graders can practically teach it to themselves, I just go over the exercises and administer the tests to them. I love how it really cements English grammar in their heads, since Latin is an inflected language. My oldest DD tells me how EASY high school Spanish (at the local high school was) her sophomore year, since she knew so much LAtin and understood what conjugations and declensions were.
I really disliked Latin programs that focus on translating Roman history. BORING. I far preferred Latin Road's readings: lots of Scripture, prayers, Americana songs. Good stuff.
My son, currently a homeschooled sophomore, is scheduled to take the National Latin Exam in a few days. I am anxious to see if Latin Road prepared him well enough to do well. I think so!

Macmom,
Do you know much about the Phonics Road to Reading and Spelling by the same author?

I also love LREG - we had started with Latina Christiana in 6th grade and it was OK for vocabulary but when it got to grammar I realized my ds hadn't gotten a good hold on English grammar (had just come out of public school) so we turned to LREG and liked it much better than LC. I plan to use it again with my younger kids in a few years.

Well, my son took the National Latin Exam Level II after finishing all 3 LRTEG books. What we DID know, going in, was that LRTEG taught MUCH less Roman history than most standardized Latin curriculums. But I was OK with that, we were in it for the grammar and vocabulary anyway, so I just had him read up on his Roman history. Reading the Aeneid helped, too! (10 of the 40 questions are on history and/ or literature.)
Results back in a few weeks, I'll post how he did!
There are also exams for intro level and level I.
You should check out the website and see what's on the previous tests (scroll to the bottom)

Peace,
Macmom

WOO HOO! My son got a Magna cum Laude certificate (3rd place!) on the National Latin Exam!
See, LRTEG really DOES deliver what it promises! And I like it SO much better than the boring "translate-this-passage-from-Caesar" stuff!
Peace,
Macmom

Wow! That's incredible! I was just at a conference this weekend and went ahead and bought the program as well as The Phonics Road to Reading and Spelling. The author was so nice and helpful and answered so many of my questions. It looks great!
