I'm homeschooling a 2nd, a 3rd, a 4th, and a 5th grader this year. We do a variety of writing, but my biggest concern is that the 2nd and 3rd grader, particularly the 2nd grader, are having problems with capitalization and punctuation.

Is there a book/process, etc. or things that I can do during our writing that would help enforce correct punctuation and capitalization (besides copywork. They are already doing that.)?

I don't know if this helps, but here's what I do.

I use Sheldon's Primary Language Lessons which is available free on Google books. You could read the lessons from your computer without printing them off. This has been helping, and especially helps with writing, as there are many writing exercises. Some lessons will say, "Write 10 statements, 5 questions, and 2 exclamations" or something like that. I ask my child to tell me his answers, and I write them on a big dry erase board. I change colors of markers with the different types of sentences, so this helps him to see differences a bit.

We also use copywork, as I see you are doing already. This has done so much to help with writing, and I think if you are consistent, it will gel with your children. You could also point out punctuation during your read aloud time.

Check out Easy Grammar: Daily Guided Teaching and Review for Grade 2 Student Workbook. By Wanda Phillips

It truly is easy. There are 180 daily lessons, each day covers very short lessons on capitalization, punctuation, another topic such as parts of speech: nouns or rhyming words, and sentence combining.

I am amazed at how much my daughter learns in the few minutes a day it takes to complete the page.

I ordered my copy from www.sacredheartbooksandgifts.com for $11.00. The book also lists a website www.easygrammar.com Maybe that site has more information.
