Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi!

I am trying to decide between using either Lingua Mater by Margot Davidson (it is available through CHC)or the Bravewriter program with my ds, age 12, who is in 7th Grade. He is a somewhat reluctant writer, but has a fairly good grasp of grammar. I would be grateful for anyone's recommendations here.

Thanks in advance and God bless!

Jenny

One more thing - is it necessary to purchase The Writer's Jungle to get started with Bravewriter? Our budget is a bit tight, which is why I ask. Can you use the program for a couple of months without the book in hand?

Thanks again!

God bless,

Jenny

As a consultant for WriteGuide -- I'd recommend looking at that. It's run by a Catholic (maybe a homeschooling) family and he hires homeschooling moms to be consultants.

PM me if you have any questions.

Jenny,
It seems to me that it depends what approach you feel more comfortable with. We are doing LM as recommended on the Mater Amibilis website, that is, we are taking two years to complete the course. That allows for some extras.
LM includes both grammar and writing. Each unit is divided into four days of work. If I remember correctly each day has a writing portion and a grammar portion. Each unit centers around a determined piece of writing and the exercises are based on it. So far we have liked it and we have liked the pace of doing it only twice a week. The rest of the days we do copywork, dictation or written narration. For the copywork and dictation I use BW's The Arrow.
I also signed up for the BW emails but I have to say that I don't do a lot of the things except for the freewrites. I am planning to use it more though. I think that my 12dd needs to do more writing than she actually does. She has never writen a report or a research paper so I feel that I need to work on that. BW guides you through the process beautifully I think.
I don't own TWJ yet and have been able to benefit from the service.

I need to run now. HTH some,

Natalia

I agree . We've used Write Guide for over a year now and are very pleased. My son, 12yo, has made great progress with the program this year. Our consultant is wonderful and very encouraging.
