Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

my 10yo ds has pretty bad spelling and so far we haven't done any formal grammar or anything.

What should I be doing with him...Copywork? Dictation? I do have him do some copywork daily and I can see that it helps some. At his age should I just continue on and add in the dictation. Should I look into a formal spelling program?

Thanks
Debbie

Debbie,

I guess it depends on your philosophy. I really love Bravewriter philosophy which is basically immerse your dc in language using copywork and dictation to help with the spelling and grammar. Julie at Bravewriter explains how and when to do dictation. She also uses something called French dictation (which is typing out part of the passage for the child, leaving some for him to fill in---this is good for the younger kids) and also reverse dictation which is where you type it out and leave things out, misspell words, etc and they have to find the errors. There are lots of free ideas on her site.
