Hi Ladies!
I am in need of book suggestions for my DS. He is 7yo,and my latest-to-learn-reader.He just learned his letters, sounds, and three- letter words this summer. He is not at all interested in little readers, and desires chapter books. This leads to frustration, and I am concerned he is going to lose the love to read.
He thinks PBs are babyish, and just asked me to let him read a Hardy Boys book. I took out a Boxcar Children book, and let him have a go at it. He was so terribly frustrated, and labeled himself stupid.
He just loves mysteries, yet I am at a loss for material for him to tackle.
His interests in general, are, sports, rescue vehicles, and military stuff. Maybe a wee bit of earth science, too.
I must be missing something. Any ideas? ( I'm reorganizing,and can't locate my "Book Guides,etc..." )Geez! That'sbad,huh!
Thanks for any help!

My new reader fell in love with the Happy Hollisters. They're out of print, but I found some at a used book store and they're quite available on ebay.
He also likes the Thornton Burgess classic animal stories.
Maybe if he wants to read the Hardy Boys, you could read together - he reads aloud, you sit with him to help him with some of the harder words. You could pull your vocab and spelling lists from the Hardy Boys books and just move very slowly through them.

These got my now 8 year old son reading! He got the set for Christmas last year at age 7. We listened to a few that were on LibriVox.org to get him hooked , then he took off and read the entire series.
God bless,
Christine

My ds 8yo loves the Christian Liberty Readers. We have the set. They are also very helpful for science. Lots of bug and animal info. Don't expect colorful pictures. Illustrations are just pencil drawings.
They increase in difficulty in each volume.
Blessings,
