Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Ladies,

I wanted to share an idea that has shown up in our homeschool...

teaching spelling through sign language.

We got hooked on the Signing Times dvds! We them! So the girls know their letters (Joseph's gettin' there)...so I'll spell and they have to figure out what I'm spelling...they also spell out with their hands what I'm spelling...

I don't know at what level this will be retained or anything, but I do think it's cool that they're getting sign-letter practice while figuring out what I'm spelling and sometimes it morphs into phonetics...

That's neat, Maria! I was thinking it might work for Aidan.   Multi-sensory involvement and all that.

We had just watched a Walton rerun last night (got it on DVD at Walmart) -- it was about a deaf girl and them teaching her sign language -- now Thomas (6) and Maggie (5)want to try.

So -- Signing Times is the DVD to try?

Thanks for any input and advice!

Doesn't Little House have a rerun where Laura teaches a deaf boy to sign? if my memory serves me...

Hey Ladies,

I think it was actually Lissa and Elizabeth who recommended this series...sign language dvds

We get them from our library.

They've been great resources for our family and since ASL is considered a 2nd language...
