Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am having a tough time planning LA for next year. We have used Learning Language Arts Through Literature for the past 2 years--it took us that long to get through due to scheduling, travels, etc.
LA is my son's strong area. I want to do something different but need direction--whether it be from a curriculum or a workbook. I like to make sure my bases are covered and work from there. I used LLATL as a spine and skipped a lot.
I have given up on copywork and dictation.
I am seriously considering Bravewriter and Winston Grammar. I figure the goal of LA is for the child to be able to communicate through writing-which he loves to do--and understand some grammar--because they have too? Well, it keeps them up with the kids in school. It might be pretty sad if he didn't know what a noun was, etc. . We read a decent amount and I am planning on doing Sonlight for history.
Do you think that is a good plan for the year? I am also considering Sonlight LA as it will tie in with history. But, I am not sure how the new LA works. Anyone have input? My last plan is to continue along with LLATL as a helper. I could really use something all laid out though--I don't have a lot of time to plan.
Advice needed. Ds is 10.

Have you tried Wordsmith Apprentice? Both my older two used it in the 10-12 range. It's so much fun, as well as a very good, basic grammar/composition course.

Have you looked at Bravewriter?

They have some great ideas. It is not all laid out, however if you looks through the articles there is alot of help in how to do that. (Her book has some great sample schedules as well, but I think if you look through the blog and website you will get a good idea of how it works without needing to fork out the money for the book right away ).

Just so you know, both Bravewriter and SOnlight use copywork and dictation. I know with bravewriter, you can just skip it.

Sorry...I didn't realize that I read your post so poorly (honestly I must have had my mind somewhere else. Glad Lisa chimed in with some more constructive help!

So does the new Sonlight LA have a lot of dictation/copywork? It used to be twice a week if I remember correctly from SL1. I used to type up the passage and make mistakes for ds to correct. I might just skip it if it wouldn't be a big deal.

PS how about Wordsmith Apprentice and Winston Grammar? Too much??
