Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

help.

I am trying to think about LA for ds9 for next school year (to commence in May or so...). He will be 10 in October, and he is my Aspie. He doesn't mind writing/LA in general, but it isn't his fave either.

I have ILL...and was going to use that...but what else?

Easy Grammar? DD liked that. Straightforward and to the point. In addition to ILL? Is it necessary?

Then, I got my SL catalog. We are going to do American History....and the SL3 LA uses American History Readers, it would tie in LA with History....

But I have never used SL's LA, and don't know what of the "optional" portions you need -- or if you need any of them....

So...ILL with SL3 LA?
ILL w/ Easy Grammar?
Easy Grammar with SL3 LA?
ILL all by itself?

Something else?

Please - any opinions, ideas, advice, even if it is a totally different program/idea/direction...I would LOVE to hear it!!!!

Laura,
I have really been pleased with Winston Grammar. I've been using it with my 11yo to remediate some major confusion over parts of speech. It's basic, straightforward, and has been working where everything else failed! In particular the cards used to "map out" a sentence and its parts of speech have really helped. I don't know of it was the tangible card, the visualization of the building blocks of the sentence, both?

Just thought I'd throw it out there. I've been using it on its own, but you could certainly use it with another program. Good luck picking out a program.

I tried to use SL LA with my son (level 2 regular readers) this year. Things did not go well. One thing about it is it is very advanced, think at least one year ahead. It does require "sitting and using a worksheet" which ds does not like (I didn't think it would be like that, the way it was described). Also it does not progress in a "linear" way, they will ask for something (such as "circle the adverbs") one day, then not again for a long time, and I had a hard time finding wherever the adverbs were explained to the child in the first place--anyway, my older son used Easy Grammar at an older grade and I liked that better b/c though it was a bit boring, at least it was straightforward and not difficult for either of us to understand. Though I admit I was not a big fan of that, either!

Was this the new LA program (new in 2007) or their older ones? I know they were revamped last year, which makes it even more confusing for me to try and figure it all out.....

Hi Laura etc,

I am interested in your original question, so I thought I would ask what you decided on?

I have been looking inot Easy Grammar to use with my Aspie and other ds. I also have PLL/ILL but was wondering if using both would be over kill especially when you add cursive and spelling. They both look so good *I* want to do both!

With thanks,
Tricia.
