Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello,
My dc are just beginning to write. I was looking at the Brave Writer website and I loved it. Then I started checking out the threads on Brave Writer in the archives here. I noticed that many of the posts were from 2005. I'm wondering if some of you are still using it. Is it working well for your families?

We moved away from it for awhile, but I am regretting it now and am ready to get back into it again when Superboy comes back from Alaska. Honestly, when we stuck to it, it worked very very well. Although we never did the copywork and dictation (not our style) but replaced it with other grammar and writing stuff.
I really liked the idea of taking one project per month through all of the stages of the writing process, while still generating new ideas on those friday freewrites.

A typical week for us looked like this:

Monday:writing process (wherever we are at- choosing a piece, narrowing/expanding, research, revision, final polishing, etc)
Tuesday: teatime, plus poetry or letter writing
weds: movie or book review and discussion
thurs: grammar/punctuation through editing of draft
Friday: freewrite
Then over the weekend I would look through his writing and pick out parts I wanted to discuss with him for revision and editing, and choose a grammar and a "style" topic to focus on (using vivid language, adding dialog, using metaphors, etc) for the week.
Hope that helps!

I am actually pretty excited about getting back into it next month. I'd like to finish up the year strong in language arts.

Cheryl ~

I just signed dd up for the KWB online course. I am REALLY hoping this helps me get a better understanding of how it all works (and can then apply it to the other kiddos). This particular course has the mom communicating with the teacher about the child's work, whereas others have the students submit their work for discussion on a private forum.

Anyhoo...registration just opened Tues if you think it might be helpful for your family.

I'd be happy to share our experience.
