Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have been following the Serendipity Series using the Ruth Heller books for grammar. I followed with interest because using the Seton grammar book was a total wash for my oldest who is 8 1/2. She just absolutely did not "get it". We had using the First Language Lessons the past 2 years and she did not understand that either. So I thought I would give the Ruth Heller series a try. Well those books perked her interest but she still did not seem to understand so I did some searching on Amazon. I came up with this series of books by Brian Cleary. He does one for each article of speech as well as 2 or 3 math books too. These books are wonderful for the younger child. They don't cover as much detail about each part of speech but they do clearly illustrate the basics. My favorite book in the series is -Dearly, Nearly, Insincerely   What is an Adverb?

I did my format different from Serendipity because my oldest positively hates to draw. So I read the book everyday for 5 days and then I started the Adverbs section in Seton Grammar. She understood. She correctly identified every adverb on every page but she missed 70% of the verbs. So I went back and read the verb book    To Root, to Toot, to Parachute What is a Verb? Now she is identifying most of the verbs correctly as well.

This series is very humorous, mixes middle school vocab with early reading vocab and identifies the presented part of speech in each phrase or sentence in bold, colorful writing. I give these a big thumbs up if the Ruth Heller books are not working for your younger child.
