Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I love words. I particularly like to go to A Word a Day which has, obviously , a word a day!

Today's word was just so cool, I thought I'd share it here
Quote:

jobbernowl (JOB-uh-nowl) noun = A blockhead.

[From French jobard (stupid, gullible), from Old French jobe (stupid) + noll (top or crown of the head).]

"That he pays not the least regard to the requirements of convention marks him out as either a superior soul or a right down jobbernowl." Soseki Natsume; I Am a Cat; Tuttle Publishing; 2002.

Mary,

when I saw the topic "words, words, words," I thought you were going to be breaking into song.    Just shows I have watched that musical one time too many?

God Bless,

p.s.
I was going to also add that I must fit your word of the day!
I will be looking for an opportunity to use "jobbernowl."

One of my boys favorite words is "bremsstrahlung." We found it in the dictionary one evening many years back. Here is the definition. It is just fun to say.

God Bless,

That was my exact reaction. I was expecting to open the thread and it to say "I'm so sick of words! I get words all day through, first from him, now from you!"

I listened to the Broadway version too much growing up. Can't say that phrase without breaking into song like Julie Andrews!

Now, here's a word I know I've used on here (and gotten lots of comments about), but I think I've ALWAYS spelled it wrong
Quote:

kerfuffle (kuhr-FUHF-uhl) noun

A commotion.

[Of uncertain origin, perhaps from Scots curfuffle, from fuffle (to disorder).]

I've always spelled it "kefuffle" ... hmmm, even the big folks can learn things when you homeschool

Jobbernowl sounds way better (chances are because it's less widely known) than stupid, doesn't it? Somehow I'm certain we'll find uses for both of your words very soon.

We use Italian or Greek words with our kids when we don't want outsiders to know what we're talking about.

There must be daily Word-A-Day calendars out there somewhere, right?
