Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My 6yod is in 1st grade this year and I'm trying to incorporate narration into our homeschooling. She's a very talkative child, but when I try to get her to tell me a story, or tell me about what she's learned about a particular topic so that I can keyboard it, she clams up! She actually pitched a temper tantrum today over narration!

I bought a 3-ring-binder for her and let her decorate the cover of it in the hopes that she would be excited about putting narrations into her "learning journal" (as we call it).

From what I've read, it seems that narration at this age is mostly informal retelling, but I was really inspired by Elizabeth Foss's description of her childrens' notebooks filled with their narrations that she had written or typed out.

Any suggestions for how to encourage her to narrate while I keyboard?

Welcome Dawn! You should take a look at the threads posted in the Narration section to get some great answer to your questions. I am in your same situation b/c we are just beginning K with our 5 yr. old ds. I would also red through the Real Learning threads when you have time...there is so much info. on this forum...what a gift!
