My dd is 10. I read a fairy tale to her and ds today and asked her to do a written narration. The fairy tale (Mother Holle from Red Fairy book) was a few pages long. She worked in her room for at least 30 minutes and asked for a break. She's written four pages so far. I'm pleased that she hasn't given up. She wants to continue working on it again later today. Am I asking too much? Also, do I go back through it with her and help her edit for grammar, punctuation, etc.? I don't want to put a damper on her enthusiasm. She's never really enjoyed narrating (even orally). Any suggestions?

WOW four pages.... my ds12 squeaked out a 1/3 of a page today before being exhausted

I think with the longer fairytales it is often helpful to just ask a scene to be retold: especially for the writers who like to include EVERYTHING in the story (my dd10 is like this in her oral narrations). This is what the Classical Writing folks do with their imitation in the narrative level I believe.

But if your daughter enjoyed it and wants to keep doing I say Go for it!!

I would ditch the editing on this if she is resistant. She is still young and I would just give her a big Kudos for a job well done if I were you.
