Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Anyone using this in their studies for 6th grade or higher?? Here is a link: Vocabulary from Classical Roots.

We're kind of beyond spelling here for my dd (11) and need to start looking into more word study aside from Latin. Aprreciate any ideas or feedback for this material!
Blessings!

We are using it for my 9th and 10th grader. My 10th grader is preparing for the PSAT right now. He just took a practice test and told me, "By the way Mom, for the vocabulary section, I knew three of the words from Calvin and Hobbes and none of the words from my Vocabulary book." Don't know if that would be a ringing endorsement , but I still do really like it for vocabulary. I did get the teacher's manual and the test sheets as well and am glad that I have them, but I couldn't say that you need them.

Meredith,
I just realized after a few weeks of using lists from Natural Speller, that my 13yo daughter needed absolutely no more work in the spelling dept! So, we have moved on to her own study of Latin and Greek roots. Rather than using a book, I'm having her use the Word Study materials at JMJ. Right now she has taken it upon herself to copy the lists I had created based on the card materials. She has set a goal to go through a certain amount each day, and copies the Latin and English into her notebook. I'm guessing when she's finished with the Latin list, she'll move onto Greek.

Anyway, just thought I'd post this here, since I know you are using many Montessori materials. Your daughter may very well enjoy this. There are these inexpensive notebooking pages that you could use to organize the study as well.

Valerie

We use Vocabulary from Classical Roots starting in 8th grade (2 books a year- A and B in 8th, C and D in 9th, E in 10th and then I plan on reviewing all the books with the kidlets before the PSAT for a semester).

Really like them. this is the second child I've used them with.

Peace,
Macmom

Wonderful ladies, thank you! Patty I had to laugh at the Calvin and Hobbes, too funny

Valerie, I love your idea, it's kind of a no-brainer, I just wondered if I would do well to have the above mentioned workbook and not have to re-invent the wheel on list making, but I see there are many options, which I like Another question, are you having her lay out her pages like they mention in The Well Trained Mind, with Prefixes/Suffixes and the meanings and then Word Roots and the meanings, or is this what the notebook pages is taking place of for her as a way of organizing it all?? I appreciate all your help!

I'm glad to know they are good for the test prep as we are definately looking ahead to that, thanks Macmom!!
