Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi all,

I was wondering if any of you all have tips on getting boys to spell better. I have a 12 year old and 10 year old son. Both are poor spellers. (The eldest is the WORST!!! VERY creative spelling. ) Since both of them are fairly poor spellers, it leads me to believe that I may have missed something in their early training. I do admit to "curriculum hopping" alot in the earlier years. We use Seton now, and the boys can memorize the word lists for their weekly spelling tests, but when they have to write a paper, paragraph or just in their day to day usage, they come up with the craziest variations. Any tips on how to get the spelling words they study to stick?" Is this common for boys this age? My eldest had a very hard time learning to read too although, strangely, he is extremely advanced when it comes to understanding large words, and was very verbally advanced as a younger child. I always imagined him loving books and eating his way through 1000's of books at a young age. NOT! He hates to read! Thanks for any tips. DO I need to do games, drills? I just don't know what to do.

My son was a horrible speller as well. This year, I decided to use Spelling Wisdom from Simply Charlotte Mason. I too have also jumped curriculums, but I like the idea behind this program. I'll let you know about the results at a later date.
