Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

How long does it generally take to get a hang of the program? How long should I schedule for lessons? Is it worth the aggrivation????

Does anyone use it as a spelling method only as opposed to reading and writing?

For those who don't know (like me until 30 seconds ago!), SWR stands for "Spell to Write and Read." It's a multi-sensory phonics based program. And I know nothing about it. Sorry!

Hi Janette and Tim!

It's me, Linda Dalton. I remember when you all started this forum a couple of years ago. I have been soooo out of the loop on all things outside our kids and the store. Glad to be back in the fold. It feels good. I love your site. I think this is a great forum. I'm sure you are delighted with it. Please say hello to all your bambinos for us. Grace is now 14!

I talked to Cay Gibson and she said she was so glad she was finally able to meet you. Cay *is* wonderful!

Thanks again to the two of you and all the others who work on this forum to make so pleasant to visit.

Linda

LOL LINDA!! I would *never* have known it was you based on your username!      It's sooo great to "see" you here.

We are so pleased with the forum, and definitely get back 1000-fold from all of the wonderful ladies here. We have an excellent group of moderators and members, and are so pleased to do our small part. God is good!

Cay is a delight. :) It was very nice to see her as we ran through town. I'll say hi to the boys and you do the same with your crew from us.

We use SWR. Read through the steps first of all(steps 1-12, i believe?). On their yahoo website, they have some helpful info on their files that will help you get started if you're feeling overwhelmed. I know i felt that way and it helped me a bunch. DO NOT try to read the entire book! You will feel overwhelmed and want to quit before you even start.

My dd is turning 6yo next month so we've used it for about a year. Have you looked at the sample lesson plans? We only do 10 words a week b/c she's in K.

On Monday, i introduce 5 new words and then quiz her on those same words after she's written them in her log book.

On Tuesday, i quiz her and i add about 5 more words from past lists. We'll also go over multi phonograms after the quiz.

On Wedn. i introduce the last 5 words and do a quiz.

Thurs. is the same is Tue.

ANd Friday, we do a test on all 10 words with an extra 5 added from pasts lists.

**a few times through the week, she'll make up sentences with her spelling words too. Every day she also reads about 20-40 words from index cards where i have written spelling words.

Okay, normally, for her i will plan on 20-30min for SWR. She'll go over the index cards wherever she feels comfortable then she'll read them aloud to me. We also play games as practice on her multi phonograms. I'm saying this so it doesnt seem like she's sitting at the table for a straight 30min.

I love this program. It's not her favorite subject though and the days that there's only a quiz or test are shorter than the days we introduce new words. She doesnt whine about it or gripe and she's always willing when i tell her its SWR time.

If your kids are older, than you can go to the Yahoo Group and ask how others with kids similar ages schedule their week and how long they take. HTH!!

Oh, and yes it's worth the aggravation, although it's not aggravating once you start and it becomes normal to you.
