Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Cursive First

Quick! I am set to purchase Abeka's pre k through 1st grade cursive writing with phonics worktexts tomorrow morning. Again and under duress because I have not found anything comparable and less anti-catholic.

Then I stumble across this site for Cursive First which sounds like just the ticket, and a cheap ticket at that!

I would be interested in hearing some first hand experience before I buy it if possible.

TIA!

Yes, i have. I have taught my dd, 5.5yo, cursive with this program. I love it. For all lowercase letters, it teaches them to start at the baseline so there is no confusion where certain letters begin at. Dd learned with ease and I my handwriting improved as well.

Ah wonderful! Is it a complete program or would I need to switch to another after completing it? Or do you only need continued practice with copywork?

Thanks!

IMO, it's complete. Once she learned how to write all her letters and how to correctly connect them, we just practiced. I didnt need any other program afterwards.

I'm returning to homeschooling after a 2 1/2 year break. With so much of my attention on history & science, etc. I forgot I would be teaching cursive to my 3rd grade ds.      It looks like this program can be used for children who are already printing.

Yes, it can be used for kids just starting penmanship or those who can already print. So far, I like it. It seems to combine the best of HWT and Abeka methods for a very simpler, in a better way, method.

I've used it with our younger kiddos. They all learned quickly. BTW, that was the first handwriting series for them. I like teaching cursive first so this worked well for us. I will say this, you don't need this program in order to implement the idea. If you have Seton or any other handwritting materials and you like the idea of cursive first, I would skip the earlier grades and start with the first cursive book. I found all our kids did well in cursive (from 5 to 10). I regret not taking more time with our eldest (14) in handwriting (any handwriting). Unfortunately I did not mind our p's and q's and her handwriting is much to be desired for. She was the only one I did not start with cursive. It was my lack of attention on the matter rather than whether she learned script or cursive first.

I think you will be pleased with the results!
