Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Opinions on this program? Esp. the green book (2nd grade) and up? The curriculum junkie (me) is contemplating last minute purchases...

My kids and I didn't care much for it. We tried to use it early on in our schooling and it just wasn't a good fit.

Same here. Plus the upper level books have a strong protestant viewpoint.

We used this our first year of homeschooling. It worked okay for the younger level but I agree about the protestant viewpoint for the upper levels. We only used it the one year.

I've never used that curriculum, so can't offer an opinion.

On the other hand, though I've never used "Learning Language Arts Through Lit" I do believe in the *philosophy* of learning language arts through literature.

Yeah, like she said.... ! Now there is a book (or set of books) that I got at the library called Using Picture Storybooks to Teach Literary Devices which is a great resource when teaching alliterations, types of stories, etc. It's a bit pricey (I borrowed one from the library) but this might be a better use of funds???

The 3rd-5th gr books have come in handy for me several times in our schooling. I pulled them out the end of last year when we had a new baby and I was schooling five and trying to keep our 3yo out of mischief. My 3rd gr dd loves the yellow book and did most of it on her own. It allowed me to have some copywork and integrated language activities readily available on those days thatit would have meant her doing nothing. She just finished the yellow book and ran to get the orange one. She was excited to see that the first book study was for The Boxcar Children.

A note here, to foster independent work it is VERY helpful to have the student workbooks.

Now, in my dream world, I would be coming up with all sorts of delightful and meaningful copywork, dictation, and narration things. I would be sitting down peacefully with a cup of coffee and going over the passages, commenting on this and that, working spelling and grammar into it all. All of the other children would be happily working and playing and the baby would be napping. BUT my dream world rarely happens around here. So, LLATL and also The Bravewriter monthly book study/passages help me often.

We use it and each of my children enjoy it. My 5th and 7th grader do it quite independently.
