Hi! I was wondering if you could give me some instruction on how to upload an avatar. I've read the posts about this but I still can't quite get it right. Kristina was kind enough to help me find one from a place she found hers online, but I can't get it to upload. I right clicked the avatar image and saved it to my hard drive but when I tried to upload it, it said that it was the wrong kind of file...?? I figured if Kristina's was working, mine should be too, right?
Thanks for helping this somewhat computer-illiterate girl!

Kristine,
Can you tell the extension on the picture when you downloaded it? Did it have .jpg or .gif at the end? My computer only was allowing me to download images into .gif files. I had to open an "paint" program to change the type of file.
I'm sure that's not helpful. But first things first, do you have any type of "image editor" like Paint Shop?

No, no image editor, Jenn, but thanks for trying to help. They were .jpg (etc) files, so no problem there. I have figured out (after fooling around with this for WAY too long) that the avatars I was trying to use online had too many(?) pixels, not the 64x64. I can't seem to find any Catholic ones online that have 64x64.
Not that I'll follow through with it, but just to know HOW it happens, how are some of the "homemade" avatars (pictures and such) created and then uploaded? Is it just a matter of a digital camera and the right equipment at home?...
I feel bad for wasting anyone's time with this, since it's such a trivial thing but I'd like to at least learn how it's done. Learning new things about the computer helps me not feel quite so inadequate when instructing the kids...maybe I just need to take a class!
Thanks!

sorry for the delay in responding...
i would be happy to create an avatar for anyone who wants to send me a pic to use. there isn't really an art to it, but you have to keep in mind that the final product has to be 64x64 pixels or smaller. taking a large picture and squishing it down to that size usually doesn't look very good -- it's best to start out with a small subject matter (or a small area of a larger picture) and go from there.
just e-mail me if you want my assistance.

OK, since you're the "man of the day" around here, can you help me upload my picture that I use on my blog to the forum avatar??? I tried, but it said it was too big and I can't figure out how to make it smaller??? Should I email it to you and perhaps YOU could do it for me, <insert begging emoticon here> Thanks for any help on this!
