Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I received this book as a Christmas present.

Has anyone read it?
Any comments?

I read it this summer after seeing it recommended on several boards. He relies a lot on anecdotes to support his arguments and the book is a bit weak on facts. I found it an interesting read but didn't agree with all his viewpoints. I particularly thought he was rather dismissive of parents' fears regarding the safety of allowing their children to play outside unattended.

Hey Rebecca!

We did an abbreviated study of it here last year.

Rebecca,
I see MacBeth pointed out the thread from summer 2005. I really enjoyed the discussion the book brought out. I found the book interesting - like Christina mentioned there may be parts different folks don't agree with (for me it was his politically correct emphasis on environmental issues over people attitude), but overall it really hit home with me. It was very nostalgic to think back to how different it was growing up several decades ago compared to today in relation to free outdoor time. We had lots more outdoor freedom and I miss that for my kids. I am sure I get bad mother points from some in that I do let my children (not when really young) have quite a bit of outdoor freedom (monitored to some degree but not attended). Because I actually agree with the author that our current societal fears in this regard are beyond the scope of reality.

Anyway, you'll have to add your thoughts when you read it.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone. I did not even do a search MacBeth . That is quite a thread! I am printing it out to read later.

Thanks!
