Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

How do you like Considering God's Creation? Looks pretty full (unlike the books I've been using ) and interesting. I'm sort of flailing with science (don't flog me, MacBeth). I feel as though I *have* to follow *something* because I have just too many kids to keep motivated. I am homeschooling 5 of our 7 kids now. Yikes! Between ensuring that the older ones get enough of my time and the younger ones are taught to read and write and simple math I am not doing very well when it comes to the not-so-extra curricular stuff (I'm talking about science and history, mainly). And to boot, this is a Sacrament year, so I'm pouring on the catechism. We don't even get outside much since when I'm not working with the kids, I'm working on putting the house back together (we moved here from overseas in July ... at least that's my excuse this year ).

Any advice? I like the sample pages I see in the Tobin's Lab catalog.

God bless,

I have it, but haven't used it. I hear good things about it. if you like making lapbooks (flapbooks) then you'll enjoy it. Or should I say if your children enjoy lapbooks, they'll enjoy CGC? LOL. A lot of pasting, cutting and coloring. Very good for children who like busy hands.

We used it for several months last year, and my children liked it! They enjoy coloring/cutting/pasting though, I know some don't. It was motivating enough for them, and easy enough for me, that we actually DID science (other than random nature study, I mean). There are ways to make it more in depth for older children too, which we did not do. My children were 6 (but advanced) and 8 when we did it.

Tina, there are many pages of CGC I really like, especially the leaf ID pages! Hey, go easy on yourself, and let the kids enjoy something simple and guided. No flogging necessary.

Oh WHEW! You don't know how relieved that makes me feel! Honestly, I feel like we've been spinning our wheels with *all* of school ever since shortly before my last baby was born, which was last YEAR.    I hope that a few well-thought-out purchases will help to get us back on track. I will have to extend the ideas scholastically, as my oldest is twelve. My kids *do* like busy-work. We have a schoolroom now which, hopefully, can be left messy sometimes. I'm going to mull this through one more night and pray that I'm making the right choices.

School is not happy in our house right now. The kids seem to go through the motions and I don't feel I've the time to really devote to it since I'm constantly shifting things around the house trying to find places for everything. My oldest doesn't even like to spend a whole lot of *constructive* time with the family. And I know that just buying things doesn't guarantee happiness. It might be altogether wrong (at times I believe Saxon math is just that). That'd be terrible.

I'm considering Dinah Zike's Science and Math books as well (sounds like CGC would go well with those, yes?) ... though I haven't started lap-booking yet. There's a DVD through Tobin's Lab that explaines lap-booking ... Do you recommend those books as well?

Thank you so much for your opinions!

Hmmmm...I haven't looked at that in a few years. Do you think it could work for a 5th grader and a 2nd grader? If so, it might be the answer for me for science next year! Also, is it too hard to have a 5 yr old girl who loves to cut/color/paste tag along with?
