Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ds wants to learn about chemistry-he wants to "blow things up"--don't worry, he really is mild mannered, but all boy
We can, and have done, volcanos and rockets with vinegar and baking soda. Over, and over and over......
Ideas of books at third grade level that can teach some chemistry? We did get Bill Nye out of the library and will watch it soon.
I was going to put together things he should be exposed to and do quick lessons on things like the periodic table. Other ideas?
Thanks in advance
Anne

I just got a kit from TOPS called "Analysis" which is basic chemistry. I like that it is set up as task cards for semi-independant work, and that they sell the supplies kit to go with it. I think we will do it this winter when outdoor science isn't as appealing.

Fizz, Bubble, & Flash is a great early chemistry book. Lots of activities and intersting presentation.

Something I saw once and have wanted to do ever since is post the Periodic Table and place a basket under it. Fill the basket with items from the chart as you find them - balloon floating above represents helium, gold and silver jewelry, pennies, charcoal, aluminum foil, a bone.

Actually, I guess it is very Montessori, isn't it?

Steve Spangler Science has a big list of experiments...most having to do with chemistry or physics. He did the Mentos/Diet Coke thing long before it got popular exposure.
