Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Last night, we had a skunk visit us. I am sure that he has visited plenty of times before. Although my children were asleep at the time, they have a lot of questions about skunks.

Can anyone recommend some good skunk books to start us on this little rabbit (or should I say skunk) trail? Our library has quite a few skunk books, but I would prefer personal recommendations. My children range in age from 1 to 9, if that helps.

Christine,
I asked my children and they can't think of a non-fiction book, but they did think of a fiction book. Nate the Great Goes Undercover is the story of the boy-detective Nate the Great trying to figure out who is knocking over the garbage can. It turns out to be a skunk.

Try The Adventures of Jimmy Skunk by Burgess. It's a winner!

Thank you! Please keep the suggestions coming. I love the little poem! Our library doesn't have the Burgess book. I am hoping that it is on the shelf at one of our local bookstores. My oldest just informed us that Homer Price had a pet skunk. Hopefully, my five-year-old nature boy doesn't get any ideas.

I was so excited when I saw this thread title - did you want to hear about the skunk that was happily munching cat food in the trap we set? (thank the Lord it did not slam shut) Or could I tell you about the skunk lost in our garage - my poor dh sat up until 1 am one night watching the door to make sure it left-of course he did not want to go looking for it and accidentally startle it...

Oh, you just wanted books! We second the Burgess- nice thing about that Dover series is they're so inexpensive (they used to be $1 but I think they went up to $1.50). My dc love all of his books. We also suggest Sweet Sue's Adventures by Sam Campbell and all the rest of the Living Forest series. Happy trails!

As a rabbit trail to your rabbit trail, you could look at some other skunk-like creatures, like the stink badger, the zorilla, and the ratal.......
