Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We live in the suburbs. Raccoons are pretty common here. I have some little boys who often leave our side door to our garage ajar. I closed it this evening. Tonight, I heard a strange noise coming from my back yard. It was sort of a scraping, gnawing sound. I looked out my kitchen window to see a raccoon (who had apparently gotten in my garage when the door was open and was now stuck) CHEW its way out of my garage. Yes, that is correct, it chewed a hole the size of a soccer ball in my garage eaves and climbed out. Watched the entire thing. I still cannot believe it. Now I have to find someone to patch the hole. Just wanted to share the audacity of this masked critter. Who does he think he is, chewing a huge hole in my garage? I am still in shock.

They are bodacious, aren't they? We had one jump on the back of our Great Dane and go for a "Nantucket Sleigh Ride" across the yard, holding onto the poor dog's ears! You should have heard the howling (from the dog) and the snarling (from the raccoon)!

Good luck fixing that hole. What a headache for you

Oh Rebecca, this must be the week for raccoons! I was just writing a post about them as we've had them here every recent night, and finally got some pictures. You know how much I love woodland critters, but these guys kind of freak me out.

Ours keep taking down the birdfeeders and dragging them off into the woods. I have found most of them but one appears gone forever! But no such damage as what happened to your garage!!

I am absolutely cracking up!!! Your poor dog must have been traumatized!!

The only trouble we've ever had with raccoons is that the dogs will bark at them at night and keep us awake and sometimes they get into the trash cans (but then so do the dogs!). Nothing like holes in the garage, stolen bird feeders or sleigh rides!!!

I saw these pictures today (sent by a neighbor of my mom's) and it reminded me of this thread. Talk about bird feeder raiding! This gal is a pro!

Oh my, I think I would faint away dead if I ever saw this in my backyard! I have this irrational fear of bears and mountain lions (bad dreams and all) neither which lives anywhere around here.

We had a fox running through the neighborhood this weekend. Now, I've seen a fox before, but this one's tail was not at all bushy - it couldn't have been a, gulp, small coyote, could it?
