We are thinking that we would like to ring our house in the rosary. We've been talking about starting at the grapes (which are on cross-like supports) and then pour and decorate our own stepping stones, one for each bead of the rosary. Has anyone ever done this? The part we are stuck on is the Mysteries. We thought we would like to include the Mysteries in some way, but can't figure out how? We've toyed with making the "Our Father" stone quite large and dividing it like a pie and using one wedge for each mystery. Then dd asked if we could include the continents from her missionary rosary that she loves. Can someone with a bigger brain than mine help me brainstorm ideas? Any advice?
Thanks,
Michelle

Michelle,
I haven't done this, so I'm not sure I'm visualizing correctly. Are you doing 15 decades, 20 decades or 5 decades around your house?
I just finished posting about some symbol resources. Depending on how many decades you are using, each Hail Mary could have a symbol of the mystery, using tile or colored stones to make an outline of the symbol. If the mystery doesn't have a definite symbol, the symbols of the people or place involved. If there are 20 mysteries and you are doing a 5 decade rosary, then the division isn't perfect, but you could do 2 Hail Marys per mystery and the leftover 2 highlight a symbol of Mary or Jesus, like a flower or plant.
First Mystery: Annunciation, Baptism of Our Lord, Agony in the Garden, Resurrection.
Opening hail Mary: rose
next two hail marys: symbols of Annunciation: Angel, Fleur de Lys
Next two hail marys: symbols of Baptism of Our Lord: escalloped shell, symbol of St. John Baptist, like camel hair garment.
Next two hail Marys, symbol of Agony in Garden: chalice, bag of silver
Next two Hail Marys, symbol of Resurrection: egg, easter lily, pomegranate
Last Hail Mary: IHS
I know this is probably too complicated for cement stones, so the other thought: Scripture Passage references in the stones.

One more idea...make each hail mary a corresponding color to the mystery. So (just suggested colors), for Joyful, use blue decorations, Sorrowful use red, Glorious White or Yellow or Gold and Luminous green.

We are getting ready to do this too! We are still brainstorming how we want to do this...we decided to color code:
Joyful ~Blue
Sorrowful ~Purple
Glorious ~gold or yellow
Luminous ~white or some shimmery color
We plan on adding decorations in the beads...charms...flat marbles...etc...still trying to work on that, too...some hints on the cement usage
I mentioned this on my blog when we did the Catechism Scavenger Hunt...we are sorta layering the fun throughout the summer...Catechism Scavenger Hunt
My ds(10 and 7) were talking about wood burning a pic to represent each mystery...mounting that on a stick and placing in the flowers around the house. but we aren't sure about how we want to do that either...and we might be saving that one for the Stations of the Cross Garden...
we are perusing the net and a few books we have and who knows where our next brainstorming session will lead us....I am all ears to any other suggestions ...we will let you know what the clan decides

Intead of one large Our Father stone divided into quarters, you could use 4 smaller ones grouped together around a regular size single Our Father , each of the smaller ones listing the appropriate mystery. Sort of a tiling effect?

Okay, it's towards the end of August... what did you come up with?!
I've been wanting to do this around my flower garden. I found "poetry stones" and thought about including these.
I thought I would insert a medallion of some sort for the mysteries/our Father. Still pondering....
Blessings, Katherine
