Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

It wasn't much, but unusual for this area and pretty exciting! Rattled the windows a bit!
DD and I went to the USGS website and looked it up and found out it was a 3.1 magnitude. Very cool website, btw. If you ever feel a quake, there is a form where you can report what you felt and see the results of what others have reported.
Here is ours!
Isn't the internet amazing!

Happy Birthday Theresa!

Didn't you study earthquakes earlier this year? I think this is taking a rabbit trail a little too far - you are nearly in Wonderland territory when a study obliges like this!!!

You ladies crack me up!

The fishing was glorious!
For those who don't know, my family got me a half-day guided fly-fishing trip for my birthday. I had been wanting to improve my fly-fishing skills ever since I learned a couple of years ago, so it was the perfect gift. Not to mention an entire morning to myself to relax and enjoy!
The guide was a knowledgeable, amiable young man and though I didn't catch a thing, my casting techniques improved tremendously. Plus, the day spent wading in the beautiful Oconaluftee river was so relaxing. I can't recommend fly fishing highly enough for a day spent enjoying nature.

What a wonderful birthday treat! And happy birthday, Theresa!

We had a 4.5 earthquake near here in Dec. 2003. The first one I've ever felt and it was a little creepy. I didn't know what it was at first. My sister had to call me to verify. I was only 2 months postpartum and was sure it was just plain tiredness.

We weren't exactly sure what it was at first, either. It felt like a giant door had been slammed in the house. We looked around to see if there was an airplane (for a sonic boom) or if it was thunder, but the sky was clear. That was when we decided to check with USGS. Sure enough, after a little searching, we found it. Dh slept right through it all!
