Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I apologize if this has been discussed before. (I avoid science and nature as much as possible )

I am looking at the 5th grade CHC lesson plans and need input about their science choices.

Are any of you using The Universe in His Hands and Pilgrims of the Holy Family? If so, can you tell me your impressions of it, including time involved, age of children and learning style that it is suited to?

I am not a very hands-on person, but definitely want something more interesting than the ABeka we TRIED to use this year.

Thanks!

This may not be helpful, but they also use this for Levels 1A/2 at Mater Amabilis, it might help to read through their teacher notes and see if this is more likely to suit your needs. We will be using this in some form or another (not with Pilgrims of the Holy Family) this next year with a 5th and 3rd grader! Good luck!

There is some information in this thread:

Universe in his Hands

I have to say that my opinion about UIHH didn't change much. I found it boring and difficult to teach. My son seemed to absorb the information and seem to have a good grasp of it. We didn't finish it though and I am not sure that I will pick it up again.

Thanks Natalia and Meredith! Just a quick read through the previous thread helped me make up my mind.

Thanks for this suggestion. CHC recommends finishing The Universe in My Hands in the first quarter and doing POTHF the remainder of the year. I couldn't imagine finishing TUIMY in one quarter! One lesson each week is much more manageable. I'll be using it with my 5th grader, but maybe I'll add in the 3rd grader too.

Thanks!!
