Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

A found a long slender beetle that looks like this Black Blister Beetle rummaging in our table cloths. I took it down to my daughter because I thought it might have been her lost cricket. (I wasn't wearing my glasses. ) I put it in her hand and told her to take it outside. The next thing I know she is screaming at the top of her lungs! It bit her! It even broke the skin!

So my question: Should I be worried?--I'm guessing not. I did a search for poisoness beetles and nothing came up. I put Neosporin on it after washing it out.

She just asked me if we could kill it. I told her that we will pin & frame it!

Should be OK. Just watch for swelling. In very rare cases, you could get a reaction, but it's probably nothing to worry about. Yeah. Beetles can bite (including ladybugs).

This website talks about the toxic effects of blister beetles: University of Kentucky Entomology. Other than blistering to the skin when bitten, the concern addressed in the article seems to be that of livestock ingesting the beetles, not the beetle's bite.

Unfortunately, this is a fault I have...

Sorry, if I've ever offended anyone...

They are sure to believe me now with a confession AND proof!

There is a longstanding joke around our home that I always think I am being bitten by an insect. I am not afraid of insects, just always seem to feel like one is crawling on me. My family teases me that I am always swatting at my legs when I stand in the yard, as though mosquitos are biting me. I will say to my husband, "is something on my shoulder?" and he will laugh and tell me there is nothing there.

Well, a few years back, we were in Texas at at friend's wedding. Her rehearsal dinner was at this gorgeous sprawling ranch by a lake. There were lights strung all around the home and she had a Mariachi band playing during dinner.

My husband and I thought it would be neat and romantic to take a walk around the lake to look at the house with all the lights across the water and listen to the music. We sat down on the ground by the lake.

No sooner did we sit down when I said, "I think something is crawling on me."

"Sure", he said.

"No, really something is biting me I think."

"Sure", he said.

"Ow, Ow, I really mean it! I am getting bit!"

"Sure", he said.

I had sat on a FIRE ANT HILL.

Anyhow, I attended the wedding the next day with red pustules all over my legs, feet and unmentionables.

Flew home that night covered in those awful bites that were just "part of my imagination"!

So much for Texas. We don't have fire ants in Ohio. Just killer ladybugs...
