Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Is anyone planning to continue (or already has) the Sassafrass science series with their dc? We are just finishing up the zoology book, and my ds is already asking about which book is coming next,

I think anatomy would be next in line for us.

I am amazed how much my dc have enjoyed the zoology book. The story line is a bit corny at times, but my ds has taken the log book and run with it. He writes detailed entries and drawings. I can't mess with that.

We are all wondering if the man with no eyebrows shows up in the next book...

We never got around to reading zoology. I just got anatomy for him to read starting in January. I'm hoping not reading the first book won't be a problem. I have yet to buy the log book (waiting for the next budget month at the end of December). Is the teacher's book necessary?

I am finding the teacher's manual very helpful. It provides a two or a five day a week schedule, which is helpful in pacing the book.

The student log book is just that- a log for putting down notes. It is not filled with crosswords, word searches, lap book materials, etc like the Apologia student journals. So there is a lot of blank space, and I rely on the TM to help guide my kids as far as what info needs to go where and when. The TM also has the map keys for the maps they fill out.

The TM has the experiments, plus the definitions for all the vocabulary words and sentences for copywork and dictation. And lists of living books to go along with the text, as well as the page number listings for outside readings in the suggested books (different from the additional living books).

So, yeah- there is a lot in the TM, and I do find it useful- even necessary as far as making the difference between the book being just something fun to read and the book being a science course.

Ack- I just looked through the supply list and resources needed for the anatomy book.

I am going to have to get on this one! I will need to order a brain, a heart, an eye and a kidney for dissection, plus the recommended set of prepared slides for the microscope. And the Dk science encyclopedias to go along with the main text.... and log books... and, yep, I need to get moving.

But it looks to be a very engaging and thorough program

We are moving slowly through Sassafrass. When I first bought it, I'd planned for that and having it last most of the year, but now that the Anatomy one is out, I started second guessing. I already had planned for DS9 to do Anatomy on his own using other resources during the second half of the school year.

But that sounds considerably more involved than zoology!

Not sure if I should save it for next year and rejigger DS9's science so that he isn't repeating everything or what.

Yes- I am anxious to get a closer look at what we are getting into with anatomy.   It does seem more involved, but I have to look more closely at the day to day schedule.
