I am trying to decide on a great, "ease into it" kind of nature journal/drawing book.
I like what Mary M. mentioned about Who LIves in Your Backyard
Here are a few I pulled from Amazon:
Keeping a Nature Journal -- which scared me off a bit
My Nature Journal -- which seems like the right level for my littles, but maybe too elementary?
Nature Journal -- which sounds like it teaches as you go?
Drawn to Nature -- which sounds good too?
Wild Days which I have and enjoyed thoroughly
and the list could go on......
Which one or two would you say were the best? Which worked with teaching yourself or your littles about journaling and drawing? Which inspired you?

Mary, I have this book and I know just what you mean!  It is a beautiful book but waaay out of my league.
That said, I am glad to have it; I just read it in bits and pieces so as not to overwhelm myself! It is very inspiring.
I'll be eager to hear what others think of the titles you mention. We've been doing lots of nature study here, but I need a better method of keeping track of it all.

I forgot to add Pocketful of Pinecones -- which is very inspirational to me too. And how 'bout Drawing Nature - the reviews make it sound great!

I love this one, too.  Of the books you listed, Mary, I have Pocketful and Keeping a Nature Journal. I like the former for inspiration and the latter for instruction ...

I have a couple... I also have Keeping a Nature Journal, A Pocketful of Pinecones and Handbook of Nature study.
I also have Exploring Nature with Your Child: Dorothy Edwards Shuttlesworth
Anotehr handbook to help you study nature with the kids.
The Sierra Club Guide to Sketching in Nature by Cathy Johnson
She gives good tips on drawing while out and about.
Beautiful Botanicals by Bente Starcke King
A great guide to watercolour and drawing flowers...
Creating Your Own Artist's Journal by Erin O'Toole
Another guide to drawing while out and about.
I of course also have the Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady

We have these two.
Nature Journal: This is the nature journal I use and I LOVE it. Just enough guidance at beginning and end without being as intimidating as the Keeping a Nature Journal book. It is mostly blank, with the exception of a few pages of instruction in front and back, drawing tips and such. The blank pages have some quotes scattered throughout, some words of encouragement, some ghost lines, etc. Very nicely done, I think. Think of it as Keeping a Nature Journal "lite."
My Nature Journal: I got this for ds but have not used it. I think ds is a bit beyond it, actually, but it has some really neat activities and such for kids. Ds just happens to have already done most of them with me before. Things to do at a pond, in a forest, at night, at the beach, journaling ideas, etc. The cover is a little babyish, but the insides are definitely full of good stuff. I think I will save it and use it for dd when she gets to be about 6 or so.

The ones I read and re-read the most are Wild Days and Pocketful of Pinecones - POP is a re-read now and reminding me to look for nature where we are.
