Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So, I'm not going to make a single gardening decision without asking here first .

The herb garden is about 33' long. I want to edge it with a low-growing, flowering perennial. It gets good morning to mid-afternoon sun. Suggestions, please?

Tickseed- round, short, compact (AKA thread-lead coreopsis)

catmint (not catnip)-purple, shortish, lovely--virtually pestfree

Wait, thinking more about it-
the tickseed would be shorter and more compact.

Its long-blooming.

I'm living through all of you this year and your gardens since with moving, my dh and I are overwhelmed and literally drained of energy to start one.

I left behind a beautiful garden at the other house.

Okay, why can't I just think of all this at once? I keep thinking of more.

I wanted to include a whole picture of the plant to give you an idea.

moonbeam variety-tickseed

Another picture--whole plant

baby's breath?
It's a bit floppy. It looks great with salvia.

Dianthus is low and carpet like and the flowers stick up.

Coreopsis is a great suggestion. It is the one perennial that comes back (strong) year after year. Even the deer skip it. But, how low do you want your border?

or Lavendar? (Ours died, didn't like the soil.)
(My husband gardens, these are his suggestions.)

How about a variety of Dianthus? I love Dianthus in all its varieties. I have some lovely light sea foam green ground cover type that is already blooming. This is only about 6 inches high at the most.

One of my flowerboxes has a perennial that is already blooming. I haven't figured what it is yet, either.

I'm going to throw in one perennial that isn't necessarily a border, but it would be a welcome addition at your house in particular, Elizabeth.

See Feast of the Archangels thread about the Michaelmas Daisy. I think it's actually an aster. I found out I have some growing at this house.

Yeah, how long do you want bloom? Dianthus is LOVELY but I think mostly spring. Tickseed is pretty much all summer, and asters are great for fall color.

I like to stagger different things so something is always blooming.

I better get off for the night. Thanks for the mini gardening outlet--it was a bad day!
