Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm looking for help. My son will be in 4th grade next year. He studied Astronomy this year and I'm looking for ideas for him for next year. I'm not a very experienced Charlotte Mason teacher/mom. I've been trying to go a little more Charlotte every year. I'm pretty stuck when it comes to science though.

I've thought maybe botany or something with building and construction. Has anyone done something that they wouldn't mind sharing?

A few years ago, my 4th grade son and I enjoyed a study on engineering and machines so much! (It's really a physics-lite course.) It even spilled over some into his 5th grade year because we were studying the Middle Ages and there's so much richness in terms of early engineerring/Physics (da Vinci, catapults, trebuchet, etc). Anyway, I posted our books and resources for our 4th grade year and thought you might enjoy taking a look at it:

The Way Things Work: Boy Meets Machine.

He read (and narrated everything), explored, built, engineered his own designs, and sometimes I asked for diagrams and laws of physics to be defined in his engineering notebook. It was a favorite science year. Hope that's a help, or maybe gives you some ideas for directions you could go with this.
