Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can anyone recommend some flowers that do well in the shade and look good in hanging baskets?

I bought a couple of pretty metal baskets with coco fillers (I think that's the name ~ my nausea and tiredness are wiping out my memory) to hang from our back deck. The one side gets a little bit of morning sun and the other side gets a little bit of afternoon sun.

I'm no plant expert, but I love impatiens for this purpose.

Here are a couple of links (I'm sure that others will post more GREAT ideas)

Impatiens would be a good choice. They're always so cheerful, and they love the shade.

I have used most of the shade plants in Jen's link. I did find that in the hotter months pansies and fushias did not thrive.
I popped them out of the planter, replanted in a shady spot, fertilized and cut them back for late summer, early fall bloom.
I really liked my tuberous begonia(before it died from a fungus brought in from the greenhouse).
I have found that along the shady walk, I love the variety of red, pink and green coleus. It requires less maintenence and looks good with just one or 2 impatiens if you wish.
Sometimes I replant part of the containers to revive the plants. My shade at the door is deep shade so even the shade plants have a hard time blooming without a chance at some partial sun.
Because I am forgetful and distracted by other things in the summer, I now have only one planter in the deep shade. And also because of my distractability, one of the girls waters the plants in the AM.

Thank you for the links and the recommendations. I might try Viv's recommendation of the begonia, along with the impatiens.

I really like the idea of assigning the watering to a child.
