Next week we will be the proud owners of 6 painted lady caterpillars. Being nature impaired-how should I car for these? They will come with some sort of food. Any picture book recommendations for us?

A young girl follows the life cycle of captured moths.

I know it's not butterflies, but it's a great book.

Well, I couldn't remember the name of the book my daughter and I had just checked out from the library, so I googled it and in the process came up with this.

The books we just had were the Crinkleroot guide and Butterfly House by Eve Bunting. The second is a beautiful book (with a somewhat contrived ending) and we spent hours admiring the pictures.

Butterfly House is an absolute favorite here, Jennifer!

We currently have 35 caterpillars in our kitchen (don't worry - not to be mistaken for food )...they've molted and we have some silk in the containers. We ordered them from Insectlore. We received them a week ago today! It's so fun!

But Butterfly House, like CiCi mentioned - beautiful...I cried

Old thread but adding this 2011 Lois Ehlert illustrated book.
Ten Little Caterpillars

From the author illustrator combo of many books including Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. It is classic Ehlert - lovely, colorful collage illustrations. Lots of plant and caterpillar identification through the text. End pages show each of the ten types of caterpillar shown in the text, with an illustration of the butterfly or moth it becomes.

And an old classic that I just found for the first time - Jack Kent's The Caterpillar and the Polliwog. A very cute story of metamorphosis.
