Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Here in Northern Virginia we've been having a mild winter. So mild I have blooming daffodils since the beginning of February.

I've noticed the birds and squirrels are really, really active. We had a bird feeder hanging for a long time with no interest, but now it's in constant demand.

But, the squirrels found it, too. It's frustrating me because they are hanging off, trying to dump the seeds out, and they are scaring the birds away.

So yesterday, I just brought the feeder in. It just was too much -- there were 3-4 squirrels constantly coming all day. Shooing doesn't work, and not much school gets done with the constant distraction.

Today we might get a light snow that stays on grass. The boys are excited (we have to embrace what little we get). After reading The Lemon Sisters which was recommended here, they are DYING to make lemon snow ice! My oldest thinks 2 inches on grass might just be enough....
Really, super angry.

Have you tried any of the various squirrel barriers/baffels yet? I'm not sure how effective they are, but worth a try. They might at least slow them down a little to give the birds a chance.
The name of this one cracks me up!Twirl-a-Squirrel

How are your feeders mounted? Ours are on shepherd's crooks, and we've had luck smearing them with vaseline. It's been quite entertaining watching the squirrels either spring off in horror or repeatedly do a fireman slide down the pole.
