Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone subscribe to Nature Friend Magazine? How do you like it?

Sorry, I really should have searched the archives before posting. I found this thread.

We love it! We've been subscribers since 2003. Here is an older thread discussing Nature Friend magazine.

We were cross posting!

You'll find a few more mentions within different threads, too.

By the way, my older children really enjoy the Study Guide supplements. We've added those to our subscription for about a year now. I think they'd be a bit much for youngers, but for 4th grade and above, I think they really add to the magazine.

Thank you, Jen! I think I will get this for my girls .. well, especially my oldest. I think she would really enjoy it

... And thank you for mentioning the Study Guide .. I was wondering about whether or not that would be age appropriate for her.

My 12 yr old loves it! She just received her 4th magazine. The 2 younger girls love it also, but must wait their turn to read and look
To have it sent to Germany is expensive, but it is worth it. The girls only have this one subscription.

I wanted to mention one other thing I do with my magazines. We keep all of the back issues. I only subscribe to this one magazine for my children, and over the years, this is the one magazine we return to again and again. I organize our back issues by month, not by the year the magazine was issued.

Each month, when the new Nature Friend arrives, I set it out on a large book stand near our nature shelf. Behind the current Nature Friend, I also put all our previous issues that pertain to the month at hand. The children frequently finish reading through the current magazine before the end of the month, and they enjoy looking through the older issues. For my younger children, some of those back issues are completely new to them.

All of my children really enjoy the *You Can Draw* feature of the magazine, and this is a feature that they especially enjoy returning to the back issues and revisiting! The older children really enjoy polishing skills.

Oh wow, Stephanie! I bet it IS expensive to have it sent overseas! But I have to tell you, this one magazine has become such a part of our own family homeschool culture that I too would invest in an overseas subscription! That's not necessarily some kind of super-duper-10-star-recommendation, it's just a reflection of how much a part of our family home education experience this one little magazine has become (although it is worthwhile, and I do recommend it!).

I'm sure others have a *thing* they do as part of their home education, like a magazine subscription, an annual not-to-be-missed field trip or something else that has grown to be a part of their family homeschool culture...kind of like a homeschool comfort food...and Nature Friend magazine is definitely one of ours! This sounds like it might make a neat thread - and others might enjoy reading about the different ways that different families grow into their own sort of *Homeschool Culture*.

Chris, I'm glad you asked - this looks like a great Christmas idea to mention to Grandma :).

Thank you ladies for the information on this magazine! I just ordered it for my DS 10 who enjoys watching birds and other little animals, photography, and drawing! I hope this will help us to do more nature study, even if in an informal way.

Glad to see you write this. I became interested in this magazine ages ago from reading your blog? or here? can't remember. It's been on my to buy list all that time waiting for the right moment, which may have arrived as the Aussie dollar is doing really well at the moment. Besides anticipating enjoying reading the mag, as we are nature nuts in this house, we are hoping to get inspiration from it to make up an Australian version, at least just to share with friends

Does this magazine cover animals that are in the US, or animals from around the world? We subscribed to Your Big Backyard, but my son lost interest in it.
