Here is this week's data.
We'll add this week's photoperiod calculations as they are reported.
Mystery Class #1: 12 hours 21 minutes
Mystery Class #2: 12 hours 1 minute
Mystery Class #3: 13 hours 23 minutes
Mystery Class #4: 11 ours 58 minutes
Mystery Class #5: 12 hours 18 minutes
Mystery Class #6: 11 hours 55 minutes
Mystery Class #7: 12 hours 21 minutes
Mystery Class #8: 11 hours 50 minutes
Mystery Class #9: 12 hours 8 minutes
Mystery Class #10: 11 hours 52 minutes
This was one of the big weeks for Journey North - the longitude clues were given. Has everyone calculated your estimated longitudes from the UT sunrise time compared to sunrise at Greenwich? If you have those calculations, post those along with the photoperiods for this week. Though we continue to post and calculate photoperiods the focus shifts from just watching those to really trying to interpret the data. We haven't gotten very many guesses on latitude so far from participants. Where do you guesstimate you are, north or south??? So if you have been able to estimate a general range of latitude - that along with this week's longitude calculation, we should have a general region to focus on for our mystery location as the clues start coming in this Friday.
LONGITUDE ESTIMATES:
Mystery Class #1:
Mystery Class #2: 90.5 W
Mystery Class #3: .25 W (basically along GMT)
Mystery Class #4:
Mystery Class #5: 25.75 E
Mystery Class #6: 35 E
Mystery Class #7:
Mystery Class #8:
Mystery Class #9:
Mystery Class #10: 127.25 E

Mystery Class #4
Our photoperiod is 11 hours 58 minutes.
I have not calculated the longitude yet, but I definitely know from the photoperiod that they are east of us and in the northern hemisphere. We are in Greenwich Mean Time and their sun is rising shortly after ours goes down! How fun is that...

OK, I'm having some kind of brain freeze here! I'm all flummoxed with photoperiods, UT, our time, their time, lunch time....
But, fortunately, my ds remains calm! He calculated our longitude as 90.5 West.
We have a photoperiod of 12 hrs., 1 min for our Mystery location on March 14th. Our latitude guess is south of Miami and north of the equator. Central America somewhere...
So we're thinking maybe Guatemala City, Guatemala?
Are we figuring this out correctly?????

#6 longitude is 35 degrees.
:: Northern hemisphere, as the photoperiod is increasing.
:: Seattle is 47 degrees, and our photoperiod has been increasing about 20 min+ per week, and #6 photoperiod is increasing 11-16 minutes, so #6 is south of us, so south of 47 degrees.
We're estimating somewhere in the middle east:
Turkey
Syria
Israel
Lebanon

What's up with #1 Mystery location? Is our graph wrong??? Photoperiod length was decreasing, but then this week (March 14) it went up to 12 hours 21 minutes. Did we miss somthing?
Feb. 7 13 hours 27 minutes
FEb. 14 13 hours 15 minutes
Feb. 21 13 hours 2 minutes
Feb 28 12 hours 48 minutes
March 7 11 hours 34 minutes
And, then it goes up:
March 14 12 hours 21 minutes
