Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I found the *neatest* periodic table of elements chart to help kiddos visualize where they would find these elements. As a complete NON science gal, wanting a complete visual I remember being in middle school and being bored to DEATH from looking at symbols and meaningless names so I thought this is worth the money. This was originally being looked at for my 6th grader who is working on these at her homeschool class but with a 4th grader too, I started questioning which would be the best choice. Your thoughts, please.

This is the one I intended to buy and then looked at all the others and am now unsure. Says upper elementary and of course looks like the traditional periodic table of elements chart except w/ photos:
Periodic Table of Element Chart unlaminated (says upper elementary)

This only covers 30 basic ones and says it's for Lower elementary. Laminated cost $25 more...not sure if it's worth that much extra.
Selected Elements cards for young elementary

This chart says it's for lower elementary too...not sure it includes all the elements. Do you think it's just bigger pictures for lower elementary?
Periodic Table of Element Chart laminated

This is really neat but expensive and laminated version costs $43 more. I'm wondering if I could laminate myself for less. ? Is this really worth the $$ too?
Control Chart w/ 100 cards

Now that is really neat! I remember learning the periodic table and being completely lost as to what I was memorizing. Something like this would have been so helpful!

That is so cool! If I had the money, I'd invest in the Level 2 set that comes with facts cards about each element. It says it is for high school, but that's probably because it has the fact cards with it. Otherwise it appears to have the photographs and the control chart like the Level 1.

If you are just looking for a reference chart, then the first one you linked to looks like a good fit.

Thanks for sharing this resource.

Hmmm. Kathryn, lots of choices...

Thanks for sharing the resource - they do look really nice and would be helpful. I probably would be inclined to go with the basic one you first thought of getting (or the laminated one of the same). It is in the period table format which I think is really helpful visually since that is what they need to be familiar with. I definitely like the idea of the "Selected Elements Cards" but I think I'd have student make their own as a project. All it involves is finding a picture that represents the element and writing a short description. The learning potential of doing it would be better than just having it available, in my opinion. If you already had the large poster version the student would know what representative images to search for to illustrate the element.

I think the 1st and 3rd products are the same poster. One is just laminated. They are described as the same dimensions (11X17) and have the same product number (Sc11) - there is just an e or an l after the product number indicating laminated or non-laminated. I bet they say the laminated one is lower elementary just because that would be a better product to get for lower elementary as it would be more protected from handling and tears. So you could just decide if you preferred one that is more durable or not (or if you could get it laminated yourself for less than $5).

And I'm still not sure what that last product includes, but I'm wondering if it's the poster chart and then the cards are just each of those pictures cut out. If that is the case you could buy 2 unlaminated poster charts - cut one up for cards and you'd have the set for $30...wondering...

And allow me to complicate matters and direct you to this past thread discussing period table resources. ekbell shared a great resource for a free downloadable period table - elements.wlonk.com. It is also a great periodic table with illustrations indicating where you find that element. It isn't photographs, but rather simple drawings. These can be printed for free. Then could be copied (for personal use) in a larger size (for example the 11X 17 that you are looking at above). I like that they have a picture/illustrated version as well as a text version that lists where this element is found.

Another resource that hasn't been mentioned is Mineral Information Institute - lots of free downloadables as well as products to buy.

There are just so many great periodic table resources out there - you can definitely make it more exciting and applicable for your kids than your experience was.

They have the posters at my local children's library. They are very neat to see in person.
